Hello mushies and daffodils, hope you are all doing astonishing.
October has happened in a blink of an eye, so here I am today to explain to you a little bit of what I have done, learned and some favourites; so grab something flavorful and get comfy :)
October has always been one of my favourite months: autumn explodes, trees start to change their colours, the sweet scene in the air, the sunlight is golden… it’s like the universe whispering to you “hey, catch your cosy blanket and chill with your fav movie and mug”.
As I said in the previous blog, this month I started studying illustration at Ilustra School, here in Seville, and I just can say that it has been a very intense but incredible journey; and it just started!
In just four weeks I can feel my hand drawing faster and fearlessly, I am starting to perceive objects differently and I know how things work without needing to see them from each side.
We started learning anatomy with the talented artist Daniel Franca. He taught us some incredible methods like the Charles Bargue, the results I got were beyond satisfactory. We ended up with life drawing and went to “Bodies: the exhibition” to see how real bones and muscles work on human bodies. As we spent 3 weeks studying them, it was really cool to have those interesting examples.
The second module we started was drawing reinforcement with the incredible Inma Otero. She has been introducing us to lots of amazing references and life experiences as an illustrator. We have been combining this theoric part with drawing exercises that may look simple but are really hard. We have been drawing objects from its basic shapes to the detail; trying to lose fear and training perspective, perception and skills.
On the freelance side, I have to say that it has been harder than I imagined to combine art school and commissions hehe but I think I just have to get used to it and with a little bit of time I will get better.
Some of the works I have done have been published and others are still on the secret side, so we will have to wait to see them bloom.
This month I have also gone on some very cool adventures:
· I visited the Fine Arts museum 3 times, one of them I was the first visitor of the day (it was so early that some guards were asleep).
· I took a freetour with an amazing guide here in Seville. It was called “Haunted Triana” 100% recommended if you are in the city: link.
· I visited the “Nations Fair” and ate Greek and Colombian food: so yummy, so tasty!
· I went to several artistic hunts at libraries and bookstores as well as to fine arts stores searching for art supplies.
☼ Chiaki playlist on Spotify: every season I start a new playlist and fill it with all the sonorous mood I find here and there.
☼ The book “Letters to Theo” from Vincent Van Gogh and his ink drawings too. Did you know that those ink drawings were found in 2016 in a lost notebook?
☼ “Over the Garden Wall” in my opinion is a must see that I try to rewatch when the spooky season is getting near.
☼ Julia Sardà illustrates the new book “Leina and the Lord of the Toadstools”. She is an incredible artist and I am beyond hyped with this.
☼ A calligraphy ink pen my beautiful soulmate gifted me ♡
And that’s all for this month! As Anne of Green Gables said “I am so glad to live in a world where there are Octobers” and I couldn’t agree more.
Thank you so much for reading and sticking with me; hope something has inspired you or been useful - until next month :)
Lots of love and chestnuts,
